Fifteen days to go!
That’s right–just 15 more days until the flower show opens. Can you stand this sub-freezing weather until then? Just hold on, and when you visit the Cobb Galleria, you’ll practically think you’ve crossed over into spring as you see all the lovely gardens planned for you, and catch the scent of blooming daffodils, roses, and other flowers.
Today I’m pleased to present another guest blog, this one by Laura Iarocci, of Faith Flowers. She and gardening partner Victoria Denson will be on hand Wed., Jan. 28, with two great presentations. At 10:30 AM on the Demo Stage, they’ll tell you how to design their colorful, charming “Candy Cubes.” Later, at 1 PM on the Home Depot Stage, they’ll discuss “Color, Color, Color!”
But, wait. Why don’t I let Laura herself tell you more? Take it away, Laura:
“I love flowers themselves. I love to put together different colors and textures of flowers and garden materials. I love the colors of flowers. Hence, the name of our Faith Flowers Studio Demonstration: Color! Color! Color! We will show some our favorite color combinations. I particularly like multi color roses such as Ambiance, Cherry Brandy and Blue Curiosa. When my partner, Victoria Denson and I teach classes, we pass around flowers so that our students can admire the beautiful color combinations as we do. I was smitten the first time I walked into Cut Flower Wholesale’s cooler. I knew then that I wanted to spend the rest of my days surrounded by flowers.
I must admit that I dream in flowers as well. I am often awoken with an idea of a new flower combination or arrangement. I jump out of bed to write down so I can remember it in the morning. I love to snuggle up with a good flower book just before bedtime so that my dreams are infused with flowers. My children use the same technique when they study. I guess flowers are my subject.
Sometimes though I have what we call “flower nightmares” about arrangements falling over or concepts that just do not seem to be coming together. Currently I am having nightmares about my entry in the Flower Show, the spring version of the Four Seasons’ Statues. What have we gotten ourselves into? A five foot high concrete statue adorned with flowers using no glue or tape? Somehow or another though the vision always becomes clear to us as to how to put it together. Must be those dreams coming into play.

Come hear Laura and Victoria tell you how to make their colorful "Candy Cubes" on Jan. 28!
Faith Flowers’ floor demonstration called Candy Cubes was based upon an idea that I came up with for Valentines Day arrangement last year. I love working with glass cubes. I like to fill them with materials that contrast and complement the flowers that we are using. We have used pink gumballs, fish gravel, and rocks to fill the cubes. I have jars full of different fillers in my studio. For the Candy Cubes we use Valentine’s Conversation Hearts and flowers. We will share our tricks of how to accomplish this design as well as our flower topiary cubes.”

Laura and Victoria, I loooove your “Candy Cubes” design. Wouldn’t these make great Valentine gifts for a spouse, a favorite teacher, or a special friend? I’m already looking around the house for colorful materials I can use to make some of these arrangements.
See you at the show!
Lynn
P.S.–I’ll be signing copies of my books, Gardening with Heirloom Seeds and Mustard Seeds: Thoughts on the Nature of God and Faith, at the show on Sat., Jan. 31. Be sure to drop by the Eagle Eye Bookstore, inside the show, from 11 AM to 1 PM and say hello!
