Welcome to the flower show blog, BCWaller! Don't worry too much about not having a perfectly groomed garden (you should've seen mine last summer, when the weeds shot SKY-high while I was out of town for a week.)

I think that what really counts is the pleasure that you find in growing things. That pretty little spruce that you're using to decorate your home--the iris you sent to lift your mother's spirits---you definitely qualify as a green-thumber.

All good wishes and prayers for your mother, and thanks again for writing.

My gardening has been limited just to trimming the hedges and mowing the lawn since the last of the rains left North Carolina many months ago, but I've put blooms into my life in other ways this winter--buying a darling potted Italian spruce for holiday greenery that will be replanted outside soon and sending irises to my mom to help her recover from surgery. I've also connected to a local farmer with a winter CSA (community supported agriculture) subscription. I've got gardening in my blood, but it doesn't always express itself as a well-tended flower bed in my own yard.

Lena, good to hear from a fellow gardener! Someone once said, "Nothing you do for children is ever wasted," and it's true. It's great that you are helping kids do something that makes their schools more beautiful, and teaches them about a hobby they can enjoy throughout their lives. You'll never learn all there is to know about gardening, but that's what keeps it interesting and fun. Thanks for writing. You'll be entered in the calendar giveaway contest, and I hope to meet you at the flower show next year!
hugs and green blessings,
Lynn

Leon, thanks for those nice words! I love photography, too, and took a "field trip" course last year to the Great Smoky Mountains. I picked up some good tips, but realized I still have SO much to learn. Thanks for sharing how you "bloom" with a camera. Would love to see some of your pix. Send me a couple to post here, okay?
Yes, I'll be signing at the flower show. Please come by and introduce yourself. I'd love to meet you!
all good wishes,
Lynn

Lynn,

My name is Leon I love your blog! It's really inspired me to be more creative and really take time out from my daily chores and notice the beauty around me.

Anyway, my "bloom"ing is done through photography. I love being behind the lens, and the fact that i can share the thrill i get with other people through pictures takes my breath away. I often try and get the "dreamy" quality of flowers that i think captures so many people's imaginations.

I too would like to meet you! Will you be signing books at the flower show?

Much love and carpe diem,
Leon

My name is Lena, and I "bloom" by volunteering at various preschools and elementary schools and helping the children plant flowerbeds. By spreading my love for gardening, I hope to instill an interest in the future generations for such a fulfilling hobby that seems to be becoming more obsolete.

People just need to stop and smell the flowers, and it seems to me like you epitomize that with your attitude towards not only gardening, but also life in general.

I love your blog, and I visit often. I wish I could meet you-will you be signing books at the Southeastern Flower Show??
