Foam, Frogs, and Pearls

What's this? Come to the flower show to find out!

Okay, class: what do foam, frogs, and pearls have in common?  I should be fair and tell you that the kind of pearls I’m talking about aren’t the freshwater ones that grow in oysters (so lovely when strung on silken cords and worn around the neck–hint, hint, Santa).

I’m talking about Water Pearls, floral foam, and metal frogs.

Water Pearls are little balls or cubes of special, moisture-absorbing material.  They’re used to keep cut flowers fresh and moist. Floral foam is simply a block or cake of foam that can be used to hold floral stems upright.  Metal “frogs” do the same thing.

These items are all used in flower arranging–but they’re just a few of the tools that are available to help you create beautiful, fresh-cut arrangements.  There are also products like clay, flower floaters, tapes, glues, pins, pruners, bases, stands, mini-lights, and more.  I haven’t even touched on vases, urns, bowls, and other containers.

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, isn't just about sticking some flowers into a vase.

If you’re yearning to learn how to use these nifty devices, don’t miss Karin Guzy’s appearance at the Southeastern Flower Show on Friday, Jan. 30.  She’ll tell you all about “Flower Arranging Tools” in her demonstration.

Why settle for a few floppy posies hanging over the edge of an empty jam jar?    Come learn from Karin!

cheers,

Lynn
